Off to Summer Camp!

Well, as I said…sightseeing came first so alas one last in depth blog has not eventuated. I am minutes away from departing where I have been staying to head to a hostel for the night to meet other fellow summer campers (some who will be on my camp!), go through some orientation in the morning and then head up state to Warrensburg for camp. Can’t wait!

I have no idea what my net access will be like, it could be weekly (like my mate seems to have at his) or it could be non-existent. So if you don’t hear from me, catch you all at the end of August as Middo’s adventure continues.

Quick Update

Hey all,

Just a quick update. Haven’t posted one in a while…cause I have been in bed sick since Friday which has sucked.

Still, New York has been awesome, I’m just sad I won’t have seen as much as I could. Camp starts this Thursday, so I still have 2 days to sight see, whcih I will definately be doing.

After that I will be at camp and prob won’t get to blog. Will try and give a better update before then…but sight seeing will come first over blogging!

Until then.

Crazy times!

Another up date for y’all. I have WAY too much to say and WAY too little time to say it.

Last few days have been pretty hectic. Our few days in Nashville proved to be quite disappointing mostly because we didn’t have a car and Nashville really is not designed for public transport, least not to the area we were staying. About the only thing we managed to do was a 2 and a half hour round walk to the closest Walmart just to check it out…only to find it was only the supermarket version and not the BIG Walmart we were hoping. But I still enjoyed my time there just taking it easy.

From Nashville we caught a Greyhound bus to Manchester, Tennesee. More on Greyhound shortly… We were in Manchester for a really big music festival called ‘Bonnaroo’, basically the ‘Big Day Out’ for 4 days. Was simply incredible. I’ve been thinking a lot about rock and roll over the past few months and for all the REALLY bad stuff that goes on at music festivals like Bonnaroo (and trust me…it can be kinda dodgy) there were actually times that I had to sit back and admit the church could actually LEARN a thing or two about how to live in community from Bonnaroo. Admittedly some of this was drug fueled but I did meet many people who were just GENUINELY friendly and open in ways that challenges my perceptions of this culture. It’s a bit like the idea that 1 or 2 bad eggs leave a bad reputation for everyone.

After Bonnaroo I begun the journey to New York City. I was once again going with Greyhound. Can I just say…I have never, ever had such horrible customer service or communication from a company than I’ve experienced over the past 2 days from Greyhound. The fact I have made it is quite a feat in itself! Too much to say to go any further but I have been generally shocked at how bad it was. Doesn’t help that the journey took 28 hours! Oh well, that’s the price of cheap travel.

So here I am in New York City, absolutely beside myself. To make things even more amazing my host, Shandra, has tickets to the Yankee’s baseball tonight! Also later in the week there is some free kayaking thing going on down at the Hudson so I may well also get to do that yet. So much to do…so little time! May not get on here too much (or I might during down time, we’ll see).

New York, New York!

The Sunday Briefing – Feb 20th

Another Sunday, another briefing. This one will be short as I am both busy and don’t particularly have a lot to share. I will likely have more to share in a week or two, as I reflect on this period of time, but for the moment much of what I am [...] Read more »
