So you may be wondering what on EARTH my *NEW* title is all about? The 5 W’s of Youth Ministry, what does that mean? I am glad you asked!
For the entire time that I was designing my new theme I actually didn’t really know what to call my blog! This is usually a no-no with webdesign. Designing a theme and THEN coming up with the title is a little backward but I am happy with the outcome.
Now, WHY this title you ask? It actually only came to me about 30 minutes ago. My ‘development’ name has been simply ‘why youth ministry’ but I never felt that entirely encapsulated what I wanted this blog to be about. I knew ‘why’ I believe in youth ministry was part of it, but it was not the full. Then it dawned on me…what if I used the question who, what, why, when and where to focus my discussions on? As I thought more about it, it fit! Let me explain a little and in the process give you a bit of an idea of what you can expect to read here throughout the year!
Who
Who is youth ministry? Who is it for? Who is involved? Who has historically been involved and who do I think SHOULD be in 21st century youth ministry? When I am thinking who I am thinking teenagers, families, parents, pastors, young church members, old church members. The list goes on.
What
What is youth ministry? What does it entail? What is it all about? What happens? When I think about what youth ministry is I think about topics like evangelism, service, discipleship, positive environment etc.
Where
Where is youth ministry taking place? Where should it be taking place? Where should youth ministry be heading in the 21st century?
When
When does it happen? When can you say something is ‘youth ministry’? When does ‘youth ministry’ become ‘church’? All these and more fall under the ‘when’ category.
Why
Why youth ministry? This IS the big one and you can expect a lot in this area. Why do we do youth ministry? Why is it important? Why do we care? Should we continue to do youth ministry or not? Why?
So there is a little bit of an idea where I am hoping to go with all of this. I am excited to have a space to really try and get down deep on these topics. If you are involved in youth ministry OR know people who are, you might like to recommend this blog to them and subscribe yourself! I would love to build a little community of people here that discusses youth ministry, regardless of whether someone is involved with ‘typical’ youth ministry or not. A big ‘who’ for ME is that EVERYONE who is following Jesus is (and should be) involved in developing the faith of teenagers within the church. Why not share your thoughts here?
