Why Subscribe?
By subscribing to Y Ministry? you guarantee that you won’t miss any of the fabulous content that is on offer. If you are interested in youth ministry OR you are a parent with teenagers then you might like to subscribe so that you can keep up with what is going on here and make sure you don’t miss it.
What does it mean to subscribe?
If you subscribe it means that you want to make sure you do not miss any of the blog posts offered by the website you are subscribing to. You subscribe using a feed reader. When you subscribe using a feed reader, that feed reader contacts the websites you have subscribed to whenever you open your feed reader. This basically works through a system called RSS or Really Simple Syndication. Every blog creates a ‘feed’ through RSS. If there are new posts at any of your subscription websites when you sign into your feed reader, the new entries are displayed through your feed reader.
Here is an example
On the left you can see some of the ‘feeds’ that I am subscribed to. You will notice that some of the titles are in bold with a bracket and numbers next to them. What this means is there are new posts(the number in the brackets being how many) from those blogs that I have not read. When I signed into bloglines (my feed reader), they looked at the RSS feed for each of the websites that I am subscribed to and retrieved any new posts.
On the right you will see a new post from my other blog AussieGreenThumb.com. When I click on a bolded title, my feed reader displays the new feeds on the right. This way I can catch up on all my favourite blogs from the one place!
What is a feed reader?
A feed reader is a simple program, like bloglines featured above, which collects all the feeds from all the websites that you are subscribed to and brings them all to one handy location for you to read. Rather than manually having to visit 20 websites to see if there is any new content, a feed reader will do this job for you and allow you to only have to visit one site to get all the updated content from your favourite news and blog websites!
What if I do not have a feed reader?
If you do NOT have a feed reader then I recommend you get one! Bloglines is my favourite but there are a few others like Google reader and News Gator and many more. Just google ‘feed reader’ if you want more options.
